Tyler Burney, LPC-Associate, supervised by Mary Buzzetta, Ph.D., LPC-S, is a compassionate, trauma-informed therapist who believes healing begins with feeling safe, heard, and understood. She creates a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients can show up as they are, explore their experiences with curiosity, and begin making sense of the emotions and patterns impacting their lives.
Tyler earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with double minors in Neuroscience and Counseling from Tarleton State University and her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at Tyler. Through her education and clinical experience, she developed a passion for supporting individuals navigating trauma, domestic violence, emotional distress, relationship challenges, and significant life transitions.
Tyler takes a whole-person, strengths-based, and somatically focused approach to therapy, recognizing that each client’s experiences, strengths, and needs are unique. Her work is informed by Polyvagal Theory and parts work, along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian Therapy), and other trauma-informed approaches. She is particularly interested in helping clients understand the connection between their nervous system, emotions, bodies, relationships, and behaviors.
Rather than viewing protective patterns as something that needs to be “fixed,” Tyler approaches them with compassion and curiosity. She works collaboratively with clients to increase emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, establish healthy boundaries, and reconnect with a sense of safety, identity, and personal agency. Empowerment and self-compassion are central to her work, as she believes clients deserve to understand themselves with kindness while recognizing their own strengths, values, and capacity for change.
Tyler believes clients are not defined by what has happened to them. Healing does not mean simply moving past difficult experiences, but learning to relate to yourself and your story with greater understanding, self-compassion, connection, and choice.
Outside of her professional work, Tyler enjoys running, spending time outdoors, cooking and baking, trying new foods, exploring new places, discovering fun coffee shops, and spending time with her two dogs, Nova, a pit bull mix, and Peanut, a heeler mix.
Tyler offers individual sessions at $100 and couples and family sessions at $120. She is honored to walk alongside each client with compassion, curiosity, and respect as they work toward finding a felt sense of safety, empowerment, and connection within themselves and the world around them.
